Cartoony Dinosaur WIP Pt.2

Here's some more work in progress images of the cartoon dino. I just tessellated the mesh up to see how my edge loops would hold up. This has been a fun character / creature to develop so far. Hope you like the style of him.

Cartoony Dino WIP Pt.1

Work in progress for a cartoony dinosaur. I'm not planning on taking him into Zbrush for detail (at the moment anyhow, I may decide to down the line), but I will be increasing his resolution for the final. He's a little more geared toward animation than for games. It would be easy enough to optimize the current mesh down to make him game ready though, if I decided on that being his purpose. There are still some details missing on him. I want to attach a silly remote control helmet to him.. you can see it in the template sketch I did there in the background in the shot just above.

Tiburon, WIP pt.4

Just a couple close ups on Tiburon's head / upper body. Next step is to up the resolution of the mesh in Zbrush and get the final details done. Then I'll export his parts and set up all the normals, ambient occlusion and the like in Xnormal, using the high res mesh and the low res mesh to project onto. It'll be fun to see the result.

Tiburon, WIP pt.3

I've added some detail to Tib, musculature and so on, but he still needs finer details for his skin texture. I'll need to either add more subdivisions to the current mesh, or use ZBrush's HD geometry options. I'm going to test both out and see what gives me better results. His board shorts, eyes, and teeth are all subtools, and will probably have to be such all the way through the process. I'll post a couple of close ups of his face next, in his current state in Zbrush.

Tiburon, WIP pt.2

Here are a few shots showing the wireframes. I'll take this model, optimize it a bit, set up UV's for it so that I can project the normals from Zbrush on it when it reaches the right level of detailing. Next I'll post some images of the character from Zbrush, with more detailing.

Tiburon WIP pt.1

Here are some work in progress images for a character I call Tiburon. These are shots of the base mesh before I took it into ZBrush for further detailing. I'll post some showing the wireframe next. This is a character I created a long time ago, originally designed for a comic book idea, but I decided I'd really like to create a 3D version of him.

Something silly

This was originally started for an art challenge at Game Artisans for their first Sprite Challenge hosted by Walrus. Somewhere near the end of that contest, my computer died and I missed the deadline. I'm going to finish it after I get more 3D work done for my portfolio. I had a lot of fun doing this kind of animation again, it has been a really long time. With smart phones coming along, and all the apps out there, I imagine there has to be a place for this kind of stuff again. That first image is my original character test, working out the palette and trying to match the style of the already established characters, which were given as examples for the challenge. The blue skinned, fish headed guy is mine. The second is my character's primary attack. I think it was meant to be a light or average attack, with a secondary power attack as an option. In the second image, I substituted in that silhouette as a proxy for one of the other characters so that there no confusion about which part of this is my work.
